Helping Fathers in every aspect of Parenthood!

Aaron B. Del Mar

Fathers Helping Fathers Inc. was founded by Aaron Del Mar in June of 2006. Aaron, a long time supporter of Fathers Rights was involved in a 3-year custody battle for his son Konnor.

Since the time of Konnor’s birth, Aaron was at the mercy of Konnor’s Mother, legally by default she was the sole-decision maker in his life and as an un-wed father Aaron was not granted any  rights. Aaron was not allowed to share in decision making regarding Konnor’s living arrangements, mental development, health, education, diet or religion. He did not even have a say in his name. The only time that he would receive parenting time was when he would succumb to Konnor’s mom’s financial demands or if she was feeling particularly kind that day.  When Aaron finally had enough and filed legal action, she fled with Konnor moving to and from several states, providing no address, phone number or idea where Konnor might be. During her travels she became married and decided that Aaron was not a necessary part of Konnor's life and cut out all visitation and phone calls completely. It was not until 2 ½ years later that Aaron tracked her down and finally had her served with legal documents allowing him to have a chance of participating in his son’s life.

Like many unwed fathers facing custody disputes, Aaron felt like that he had little or no chance of gaining more parenting time let alone winning custody of his son. Due to the current stereotype that children are best served by living with their mother Aaron had many challenges. Never the less Aaron knew that he must fight for the future of his son no matter what the cost. During this high conflict custody battle, Aaron found that as an unwed father he had very limited rights and even less legal and social resources to aid him in his struggle. Many of the legal statutes did not take into effect the differences and obstacles that a unwed father may face compared to divorced fathers.

Through extensive research into child custody battles Aaron found that although legislation was being passed to try to increase the amount of responsibility and interaction that fathers had with their children it still seemed that mothers in similar situations received far more assistance and even favoritism.  What was even more astonishing was that there was a great deal of research which showed that children who had active fathers were more likely to succeed in every aspect of life compared to those who had limited interaction with there fathers.

Furthermore,  in his efforts to educate himself on the inner workings of the legal system, Aaron found that many great fathers are not fairly represented due to several major factors including: lack of knowledge regarding the legal system, little or no financial resources, a feeling of social displacement and hopelessness based on society’s stereotypes.

In early 2006 after a long drawn out battle that spanned across four states and included the help of numerous attorneys, private investigators, and countless hours of research, the courts finally ruled that Aaron was best suited to have  primary custody and sole decision making rights of Konnor. From that point on Aaron was determined to aid other fathers in similar struggles by forming an all encompassing organization that would not only encourage fathers to get involved in their children’s lives but also make them aware of the rights that the do have as fathers.
